Rafael Nadal Visits Disneyland Paris After Winning 6th French Open

After capturing his sixth French Open and 10th Grand Slam title, the world’s No. 1 tennis player Rafael Nadal proudly showed off the La Coupe des Mousquetaires trophy on Monday at Disneyland Paris.

During his visit, Nadal waved to fans and signed autographs while enjoying the Magical Moments Festival and his favorite Disney attractions, such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Space Mountain: Mission 2, Tower of Terror and Crush’s Coaster.

Secrets of Disneyland Paris Fun Facts From Behind the Scenes

Although there are castles at Disney parks in America, Japan and Hong Kong, Sleeping Beauty Castle is unique. Other Disney castles are modelled on aspects of historic European castles located far from the parks in which they appear. For Disneyland Paris, such a castle would have been redundant. Therefore, a “fairy tale” Castle design was used, inspired by classic book illustrations, illuminated manuscripts and the animated movie Sleeping Beauty with its distinctive “square tree” landscape. The Castle also incorporates some aspects of French “châteaux” researched by Disney Imagineers.

There is one thing Sleeping Beauty Castle has in common with all other Disney castles:  it faces north-to-south to prevent backlighting for guests who wish to photograph it from Main Street.

Sleeping Beauty Castle is the only Disney Castle in the world with its own dragon, sequestered in La Taniere du Dragon beneath the Castle. The largest Audio-Animatronics® figure (79 feet long, 5,500 pounds) at Disneyland Paris, this dragon was designed to resemble the “real” dragons of European folklore, rather than the animated dragons of Disney movies. Disneyland Paris is launching an unprecedented iPhone application, a first for Disney Theme Parks. Designed as a truly interactive guide, it will help the many visitors to Europe’s leading tourist destination enjoy greater comfort when preparing their visit, and when experiencing it too.

Available free of charge[1] on all iPhone models, the Disneyland Paris iPhone application provides a host of ways for guests to customise their visit, optimising the time spent at the destination. Interactivity and real-time information take centre stage to ensure a successful stay.

Prior to their visit, visitors may:

  • Get information about the destination (descriptions of the Disney Parks and Hotels) and check opening hours for the parks, attractions, shows, parades, restaurants, shops and services
  • Find out the various admission rates to the parks and about special offers, with the possibility of directly contacting our central reservation office to make a booking
  • Customise their experience with recommended itineraries according to what they are seeking (thrills or family adventure), and with lots of advice to help get organised once on site
